writing machine in bad repair
If they're in the US, they can get the manga anywhere, and the most expensive they'll find it is, maybe $15. I used to work in a book store and they had two whole aisles devoted to manga and graphic novels, an extremely large variety, too. I find it hard to believe they couldn't find it here, and I find it even harder to believe they wouldn't be able to afford it.

And, even if they can't afford it, we have a public library system here for a reason. Most library systems will willingly order in books (manga included) if they don't already stock it. And there's used book stores, too, where you can find tons of manga - in English as well as Japanese, so the variety is fantastic.

I think they're just cheap, or there's something about the manga/anime fanbase that makes them think they're entitled to free media. I don't know if it's because they got it for free for so long because no one would import it/fan translations/whatever, and now they're just used to it, or what but I haven't seen any other fanbase cause such an uproar about actually having to pay/support the people they're fans of.
