He had thought that they were going to focus on just trying to get to a safer spot, so he believed that Toshi hugging into his arms was just Toshi trying to feel safer, and instead she stopped and told him words that he was not used to. He stopped, trying to digest the words that Toshi had just spoken, and he smiled though hiding the fact that he was overjoyed to hear Toshi say that to him. He looked down at her and returned the words, "I..love you too."

She wasn't sure if she preferred the two nut jobs in the other room or if she preferred two that had issues involving spirits. It was almost impossible for a tengu to be like Toshi unless they had used some sort of black magic, which was also taboo in tengu society. And one with two spirits was most likely the result of trying to force a spirit into being reborn as a person that they were not meant to be, though she couldn't remember if that is what they did to Yuu or not.
