East Coast is crowded w/markers because they had a head start in population...isn't that always the way? When you look at a sat pic of Earth at night, the North American Eastern Seaboard is lit up - BOOM - and the West Coast is like...uh, hi, here's LA...and a dot for San Fran...and oh, here's Vancouver...
