Valentine's Day has the peculiar distinction of being purely commercialism. It was invented by greeting card companies. Oh, sure, the feast of St. Valentine was a real holiday, but it wasn't about love and it wasn't commonly observed. (And it existed for the purposes of displacing a pre-Christian holiday about running around naked and slapping people with animal skins.) Rather, a greeting card manufacturer found a previously-obscure holiday and decided to make a thing out of it.
