High fives are meant as a gesture of social acceptance, approval, encouragement and inclusion,
by means of a friendly and harmless mutual striking of palms together,
-u- resulting in a short sharp sound.
They are mostly unnecessary for survival, but are helpful in maintaining positive social interaction which is necessary for all needs above the basic physiological needs.
