To the best of my knowledge, mules have two relevant functions on Trisphee:

1) A mule can be used for RP purposes, to separate the player from the character.
2) A mule can be used to hold items that would otherwise be cluttering up your inventory, to make the avatar editor easier to manage.

In theory there could be others, but the other common mule uses aren't particularly necessary on Trisphee. (And of course using a mule to circumvent the rules will just get you infracted and your mule banned.)
