we don't have pings currently, it's one of the things on the list of upgrades to add to the site to bring us into the modern age (we're approaching our 8th anniversary, i believe)

quotes aren't annoying, but they don't actually give any notifications, either. they're the old fashioned way of clarifying who you're talking to and about what, nothing more than that

it's pretty normal, and our quotes don't make quote trees, and we have a multiquote button to tag multiple users in one go, so feel free to use and abuse
