That's good, Den ^^ running out of yarn early is such a pain, especially when you don't have money to buy more right away and/or the one you were using isn't readily available anymore.
Kool-aid powder, huh. Interesting. It somehow never occurred to me you could use food coloring to dye yarn, but now that I think about it, why not. In another forum someone recently posted a picture of their hand dyed yarn (don't ask me what color they used though) and it was dyed as a knit tube, then unraveled. Reknitting the yarn into a pair of socks yielded a pattern of color distribution that looked quite different from how it seemed on the tube, so that's got just the right amount of mystery.
Ah yes. I have never had a piece unravel on myself - mainly because I haven't even done so many to begin with - but I can see how wear and tear becomes a problem. That's actually the reason I also want to learn naalbinding, because a lady working in our local open-air museum once told me socks and gloves won't unravel so easy when they get holes.
