Oh hey I know Amtgard! They practice on the field next to our guys on Sundays. I'm a member of the SCA. I want to try heavy fighting, but I don't jhave the money to start up a kit. I've considered joining Amtgard or Dagorhir a couple times because it looks fun and maybe less painful than actual heavy armed combat.
