Because the apprentice smith wired the mechanism too tight again. A very talented metalworker but somewhat foolish, hence the extraordinary strength of the "launch" mechanism that was really intended to merely push the anvil from one place on the floor to another, as the aging smith was trouble with his back.

Why does this cupboard spray poison in my face? Repeatedly?
