Is that an accomplishment or a "damn, I washed them wrong and they went baggy"?

Corsets actually do a fairly good job at shaping your waist and stomach, but you need to get the right type. It's not just a matter of size, contrary to many beliefs, but your overall figure determines whether you're better off with an overbust corset, underbust or waist cincher and what curvature it has to be designed for.

You need to look at your waist to hip ratio, which can be tricky when ordering online (as most stores only base their sizing on the waist circumference). An ideal fit occurs when you can lace the corset evenly (absolutely avoid any corsets which - when tried on - fit at the ribs and hip area but can't be closed to the same level at the waist. Those are tailored to a more hourglass figure). Don't buy corsets that fit at the waist but leave too much space at hips and chest even when laced (that's the same hourglass figure design, only a size or two larger).

I recommend an underbust over either a victorian blouse or pirate shirt. The wider "undergarment" along with the shorter corset will center attention on your chest area instead.

(Why do I even know this stuff? o.O)

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with geeky shirts. Just wanted to clear up the misconception only certain people can wear corsets.
