As it happens, it is in the plans to have a sort of... "old items" shop that would sell old rune items (and aurum monthlies) for short periods of time. What would appear in the shop would be based on a combination of curation and statistical data of what items are actually "in circulation" or not.

There are still a few other things that have to be completed before I focus on that, but it's not terribly far off.
