Mate, you can do it. In today's job market, it's more of who you know and who you can impress instead of what you went to school for (Unless it's something specialized, like Law/Engineering/Medical). Having connections is the better ticket until the economy decides to get off of its back and back on its feet. Anecdotal, but I left a job with a corporate retail chain and months later they asked me to come back with a pay raise. If you're good with people, people will be good to you.
