I say screw calorie counting.

Just cutting out sodapop and a bunch of greasy sugary foods works...
Until you cave and binge on a 2L of soda, a bunch of chocolate, and a box of cookies....
Oh, and birthday cake.

I went from 255lbs at the end of August down to 230 by the start of October... Then failed miserably and binged.
