The mechanical star gods are somewhat better as leaders than as subs. (They're effectively 1.4/4/1.4 leaders as long as you're not up against the color they're weak to.) If you want to run Pollux on a team I would try making him the leader and subbing in as many light orb enhances as you can. The main problem (and I ranted about this a while ago) is that TPA and row enhances don't work on a star god team because you have to get exactly five orbs in a match to trigger the leader skill and therefore you can't trigger TPA (4-match) or rows (6-match).
Pollux isn't a particularly good Athena sub because Athena teams should be leaning on TPA.
If you want an orb-changer for an Athena team, go for Valkyrie and/or Verche.
