When I was little my mother handled a fear I had of a spider crawling up in my bed by spraying around my bed with some of her body mist and telling me that spiders avoided chemicals.
It took me YEARS to realize she'd BSed that.

XD Somebody managed to track down a package of diaper pins for me, and they're now all over the place, including holding the button on my purse. 0.o Why would I freeze on the hot day?

My safety pins aren't the diaper variety but I do believe I found one of them on the ground. Their very first use was for my werewolf Halloween mask my senior year of high school, it was too big.
I'd love to have a whole mess of them, they are so useful.
