I think it depends on what you go there for, and how severe your condition is. The ones I've seen have been more like a highly secure preschool, where they don't give you access to sharp objects or dangerous inhalants, and they have visiting hours only on certain days. Activities are pretty much either counseling or milling around with the other crazies, unless you're lucky enough to have someone bring you a book or something.
