Nila is a cat. Well, okay, no. Let me rephrase that. Nila is the cat familiar of a rather clumsy apprentice wizard, whose master decided that, after months of frustration, haywire magical energies, and exploding flasks, to give said apprentice another teacher.

The master wizard had, as of then, recently found an orange tabby kitten. Quite intelligent, too. And able to talk! A sure sign of sorcerous abilities, and definitely made for a good familiar. Nila had spent only a few weeks under the tutelage of the master wizard when the old man threw up his hands in exasperation as he walked into a blackened and rather well-burnt alchemy lab, his apprentice sitting, stunned, in the middle of glass shards and widely-strewn ingredients. Expensive ones, no less.

In slight desperation, he placed his apprentice in the care of Nila, who, despite often getting both herself and the apprentice into troublesome adventures, did end up teaching him quite a lot. And he had just perfected his shapeshifting spell as Halloween rolled around, and, overly excited to show his tutor, cast the spell backwards in her general direction.

...Unfortunately, the cat had just been exploring the insides of a carved-out pumpkin, and, well, you know the rest.
