Don-chan (not Brave Don-chan) evolves into a monster of awesomeness.
The dragons from the gift dungeon are sometimes called the Late Bloomer Dragons (they suck bad until you get them all the way up, including their stats -- they get really weak stat gains at low levels and faster gains at high levels) and sometimes called the Double Dragons (because their best evolutions are their Twin Star forms).
Until the Twin Star uvos were added, they SUCKED. They're not TOTAL crap early on, but until last year's "let's make dragons suck less" buff cycle, they were pretty easy to outgrow.
Now, the non-Twin Star uvos are still pretty weak, but they'll still be somewhat useful for ML -- the choice of uvos allows you to vary their subtypes and elements for flexibility of team composition, and 1.5xHP 2xATK is useful if you don't have anything better.
The Twin Star uvos require two Trifruits, which is... difficult... and their stat growth curve is a pain in the butt as described earlier. But in return, you get a monster with decent stats and the appropriate awakenings/leader skill for a row-enhance team. And it should be noted that the ATK bonus in the leader skill is NOT a typed bonus -- if you trigger it, it applies to your whole team regardless of type or element.
All of the uvos have the same active skill, which used to suck pretty bad (20xATK is pretty meaningless damage most of the time) but is useful (though still a bit weak) now that they provide a damage buff (1.3x) for two rounds.
Unfortunately even the Twin Star versions still don't really stack up in the late game. They look good on paper with relatively high stats and good awakenings, but their active skill is underpowered and the team composition convenience of the leader skill doesn't really pan out in practice when it's so easy to find unconditional 3xATK leader skills. The end result: by the time you can make them useful, you probably have better.
