Obsidian is right -- shutting down at all, even temporarily, will kill the site. We could pull it off for MAYBE a week if we had a critical maintenance issue, but no amount of e-mail or social networking will help us recover if people stop checking back on their own.

We do have a testing subdomain. When we make larger-scale edits to the code, we use it.
