lol, I would die for a rpg that lasts longer than a few months myself but than I rarely remember to log back on these days.
I think most avatar sites shut down cause the generation that grew up with them has moved on and younger generations really are not interested in them. They are coming a thing of the past sadly but than again, I have seen smaller avatar communities remain alive cause the user base considers each other family and supports the site. From personal experience, also depends on the site overall. If they keep bringing new content out and work with their user base but avatar sites may have to close due to financial problems, real life issues the owner may have or not enough users to keep things running. I know one site changed hands cause the owner's health was poor and he couldn't keep up with the stress. They changed hands two more times and the owner now loves the avatar community that she spends a bit of her own money in trying to fix things so other people will enjoy the site.
anyway, my two cents worth.
