Default Never Listen to an Idiot   #1
(Just to put out there, The Pervert is telling me to use Veggie Oil, we haven't gone to the bike shop yet xD I hope they tell him he's an idiot)

I haven't rode my bike in the past 6-7 years. One reason is that I've been unsteady on one since my bike wreck down in NC where I couldn't walk for a few week and it hurt to breath, and my writs years later has problems. The other reason was the back break.

Well after watching this one anime, I got in the mood to bike. i took the opportunity to pump the tires when Pervert came over.

(for those who don't know me, pervert is a family friend who does sick things in front of us, no matter how much we complain. If he didn't help us out with food when we needed it, he would have been gone a long time ago. We're currently planning to move out of state to get away from him, and other problems)

Well Tires all pumped up, i tried riding it. I was shaky but that was expected. The real problem was the back break.

Well we decided we'll take the bike to a bike shop next week. I mentioned getting the bike shop to oil the chain. The jerk goes 'just use veggie oil'. I flipped. 3 in 1 oil was bad enough on my last bike. it gummed up so bad and left white residue everywhere... After researching on the bike forums, it turns out Veggie Oil gums up worse then 3 in 1!

I would rather spend the 5-10$ on a proper Dry Lube for bikes then possibly ruining my bike with veggie oil.

I don't have the skill nor patience to take apart the gears and derailleur and what not just to clean out the gunk the veggie oil will leave. With a proper bike lube, all you do is take a cloth and clean out the old lube and then add on the new lube. the lube wont gunk up.

And if I did use that veggie oil, not only would it get all gunky, it would attract dirt and bugs. thats even more stuff to clean off. and if all that happens while your riding, your chain is probably gonna pop off or worse.

Why does this person think that just because it is called 'Oil' you can use it for anything? ._. there are pro's and con's to each oil.

Just like with a car, you need an oil that doesn't gum up so much. You won't be putting a bike oil, or veggie oil in your car would you? No! You'll go to the car shop, or car section of the wal-mart and get a car oil like Pennzoil or what ever.

And someone who can't even keep his car out of the work shop for more then 2 months, has no right to tell me how to take car of a simpler contraption as a bike! Since he won't like me get the guys to oil and clean the chain for me, I'll be getting me some Finish Line next month. =/ I refuse to use veggie oil, and 3 in 1 isn't coming ANYWHERE near my bikes again.

Just looking at the comments on biking forums makes me quiver. I told this to one of my friends on another website, they looked up the wiki but that wiki only had the 'good' stuff about using veggie oil. It didn't have any of the cons like gumming up so bad and fast that you'll have to take the bike apart just to clean it. Or how it would attract bugs and dirt. Or the fact that if it's been raining, that stuff will come off the more wet it gets. it's not good for wet conditions. I wouldn't be able to ride my bike during the winter with veggie oil. And since you need the oil on bikes to last.. something that is biodegradable isn't what should be put on a bike anyway.

Sorry I had to rant.
