I had a bank account even when I didn't have a job. I just had to be old enough and have money to put into it. But, it was a college account that was free to use. I do see the need to have a job with some because some banks actually have a service charge just for using it to keep your money in there. My fiancé would have a service charge if he didn't have direct deposit or a certain amount in the account. I used to have a college checking account at that same bank, but they got rid of the college checking, turned it into a normal account and started wanting to charge I think $6-7 a month just to use it if I didn't meet the criteria.

Went to another bank, had a college checking account there... but they had a service charge no matter what. They also didn't warn me that my overdraft protection was no longer in effect and in the end I had -$87 in my account when I left... Fiancé had to pay that for me since I hadn't received any money yet. Finally found a bank that I don't get charged a service charge for a college checking account (I'm in school still). Never made sense to me for a College Checking account to have a service charge.

Sorry for the ranty ^^"
