So, I happened upon the following. This just reinforces my opinion that Evangeline Lily was quite great for this film, and her opportunity to make it better was crushed by the saccharine indulgences of Ms. Boyens.

Behold, the vomitous confession to the motive behind the love-triangle in the Desolation of Smaug. Behold, and despair! The sheer flagrance, the contempt, the disdain for what made Tolkien's stories great that flows from this woman is enough to make my blood boil.
