So uh, there's a way to make an avi, save it, but still keep the one you just had...
1.) Open the editor (tab 1)
2.) make a new avi
3.) open the editor in another tab (tab 2)
4.) revert the avi in tab 2 to the one you currently have
5.) tweak something in your new avi in tab 1 (eg move around layers that don't matter; add something and then take it off again, etc)
6.) save the avi in tab 1
7.) tweak something in tab 2
8.) save the old avi in tab 2.
