Oh, some more general advice:

Know who your audience is, and know how to take criticism (I don't mean just don't take it personally). You have to have a clear idea of what you're trying to do with your writing, and what kind of person will enjoy it. And you need to be able to parse out good critiques from bad ones. If someone just doesn't get your writing and is telling you to change almost everything... they probably aren't the kind of person you're writing for. (Though good readers will be able to separate the difference between bad writing and something not being to their taste.)

Basically, just don't blindly take all the advice you're given. Question, doubt, and above all: LEARN HOW TO CRITIQUE! It's really important to know what NOT to do, and the best way to is to find what works and what doesn't in other people's writing. Not to mention, being able to see the flaws in your own work lets you have a clearer idea of what you're trying to achieve, what's lacking, and you'll know when you finally get it perfect.
Cold silence has a tendency
to atrophy any sense of compassion
between supposed lovers.
Between supposed brothers.
