...I think I started a thing.
Before I go back and read stuff -- One of the reasons why MM (referring to that one friend) doesn't want to call another of my friends "they": "I refuse to be attacked or insulted just because I acknowledge that someone is biologically female or biologically male."
My answer: "It's not the biological aspect -- if they perceive themselves to be male and make efforts to live their lives as a male, calling them female is the same as calling a person who does identify as their own sex, the opposite sex."
Also, he was asking me "How does one 'live the gender-neutral lifestyle'? As opposed to living as a female or living as a male?" That took me a while to explain.
And I feel a bit bad for copy-pasting from our chat, but I hope you all can see that he doesn't mean any offense.
"Maybe this segment of people thinks that I equate pronouns more with (apparently?) physically assigned sex than mentally identified gender. Or at least, that may actually be the case.
I still see you as a girl. A tomboyish one at that, but a girl nonetheless."
That last part did actually offend me, but...I know I won't be easily able to change his views on that, and I wasn't in the mood to argue that one out.
