Being a bit of a romantic (as in dreamer, and not lovey-dovey person), I'd say that yes, your family is poison and you should move out. But I'm only 19 myself, and a bit sheltered, so to be honest, I have no real clue as to what that'd entail and what sorts of troubles you'd run into.

Your parents should not be threatening you. What sort of claims do they have against your boyfriend? I doubt it'd be anything that justifies your father committing suicide, which, even out of context, is a damn stupid thing to do. Who you date has nothing to do with him, seriously, and isn't going to bite him in the ass.
