I apologize if my judgment is muddled by a lack of information. But I advise that you not feel too indebted to your friend. If he is your friend, then he will not require repayment, if all he was doing was being a good friend. If someone is there for you, all they ask is that you be there for them in kind. Feeling bad about it will only make things worse.

But I've no authority on the matter. I do not wish to dictate your actions. I merely hope to offer advice.
