Yeah, my Swedish teacher talked about it but I missed the Nordic club film night when they showed it, in Swedish of course. No English language films allowed!
Two movies that I liked, while not very common, were well made horror films. Not sure if they were Hollywood or independant. Frailty was the first one, about a son narrating the story of how he came to learn who a serial killer was that is currently attacking people. Less horror, more psychological. Deathwatch was the other. I picked up that one at the rental place because I am interested in war movies. It was about a haunted trench in WWI and had Andy Serkis in it (Golum from LOTR). My favourite scene was of a guy caked head to toe in mud, no part of him visible until he opened his eyes. I remember imagining the work it must have taken to pull that off for make-up.
For another not-so-well known (as far as I'm aware) slasher/b-grade movie, I like Dog Soldiers. Soldiers get holed up in a house and must fight werewolves. Pretty basic plot, but I like it because the werewolves are done with animatronics and puppetry rather than computer and it's neat to see, and because the men getting killed are soldiers, so they can actually put up an admirable fight (*really* admirable fight) instead of quivering and being eaten.
Frailty I'm pretty sure is American but Deathwatch and Dog Soldiers are both European. Deathwatch is UK and Germany while Dog Soldiers is UK and Luxembourg (and apparently USA as well checking IMDB).
