Song parodies

I think the most well-known musical artist is Weird Al Yankovich. I do like a few of his parodies.
But I will be honest. Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye has become an unbelievably popular song. I feel like I can relate to it, and I think many others can as well, bringing light to his beautiful music. I don't get why people feel the need to make fun of it. It's a perfectly meaningful song and I think it helps people become more in touch with their feelings. I'm seeing photos popping up everywhere that poke fun at the lyrics to his most successful song thus far. I feel like people doing this will keep people afraid of showing how they really feel because it's hard to when everyone makes fun of something they're feeling.
The same thing happened with James Blunt's song "You're beautiful". The first time I heard and saw it was on a music channel and I thought it was amazing. The parodies that came after it is what ruined the song for me. Haven't listened to it since.
What is everyone's thoughts on musical parodies? Do they ruin the original song for you?
