The boy didn't respond for a few moments, but then came to in an explosive bout of coughing and randomly flailing limbs, knocking over some vials and jars before he realized he was safe and calmed down to making slight whimpers every so often, eyes that were a bright yellow darting around and trying to gather exactly where he was. He'd felt the medicine go down his throat, and that, if not the taste, had woken him up - although he was still in a hell of a lot of pain. Hence the whimpering.
