Honey! I'm home!
And mah belleh is quieted ^_^
I really hadn't thought of setting up any sort of monthly service. That's like being a sealed supplier on Gaia, yes?
I sell runes in multiples of 10, 2500au per 10 runes. I can set runes aside fork people who request them *nod* I can even run a line of credit for people whom I know will be good for it (like the nice regulars here in 10k CPC ^_^).
I'm wrestling with this because I have the money for that doll right now... and I've wanted it since I first saw it in the Barbie Collector catalog.
You see, I joined a Barbie fan site in early 2002. When your doc says you can't go back to work, and you're used to 10 to 14 hour work days, sitting on your ass, twiddling your thumbs doesn't come naturally. So, I dove head first into my doll collecting hobby.
My then-finance, now husband-creature has been customizing toys since he was 8. He suggested I give it a try with dolls. *shrug* I made a Renaissance Barbie in 12th grade when I was stuck at home with Chicken Pox (it was extra credit for my AP British Lit class), so I figured, "why not".
Here's what I came up with (based on the Living Dead Doll "Sheena", shown next to my doll):
FRONT:
BACK:
Well, I was "politely" asked to leave the Barbie fan site for "desecrating" a Barbie in such a manner. Really? REALLY?! They thought Barbie was sacred *pfft* I went and started my own Barbie/doll/action figure fan site called "Barbie on the Edge". It was actually a fairly successful site that attracted some semi-pro OOAK (one of a kind) artists. They came because I rated the site Mature, age 18+ only. The artists were free to make and post pics of anything they wanted- as long as it was toys (no actual pornography was allowed, but "toy porn" was very much welcomed!).
Anyways, I really got a kick out of practicing doing piercings with really small rings (many people did the basic stud piercing with a straight pin, but I liked the challenge of rings).
The lip ring was the biggest complaint the fuddydud on the other Barbie site had.
So, when Mattel introduced a Barbie with an actual nose ring, I was all, "FUCK YEAH!"... but by the time I had saved the money to buy it, Mattel was out of stock and eBay was overflowing with th dolls at $100+ each *super sad face*
I made my own version of the doll with the same style guitar (minus the Hard Rock Cafe logo), head sculpt, face up, and hair- but since I can't sew for shit, I couldn't replicate the outfit to my satisfaction.
Now her she is... and because the box is not in collectible condition, it's less than $60 shipped.
OR
I could buy runes and help Tris grow.
Also, I know I can sell runes and help friends with quests and give gifties to friends and nice people who have helped me a great deal since I joined Tris. I LOVE gifting people... it's one of my weaknesses OTL Having a shit ton of runes means I can give out some really decent gifties ^_^
Do you see my dilemma now? Ó_Ò
TL;DR: Should Kat buy a doll that will just sit on a shelf and collect dust (but give her the satisfaction of giving the finger to a group of old biddies who kicked her out of a doll group for her "alternative" taste in dolls a decade ago); or Should Kat buy runes to help Tris grow and help Kat give kick-ass gifties to her friends?
