Well no- not really. O.o; Is the man single?
There's a lot of motives that could cause him to say things like that, such as;
He's single and because he's jealous of your relationship with your husband he lashes out and puts you down to make himself feel superior. (This could also apply if he was gay and fancied your husband)
He could just be old fashioned and not like the pierced look.
Your Husband (though based on what you've said I doubt this one) has told him he hates your piercings.
It could even be that you've said something that's offended him, and not wanting to bring up the exact details he lashed out on your appearance.
He could also just be an asshole. (Probably is part of it regardless of it being the main reason)
He could also being going through a tough time, since, most people wouldn't punish their friends based on their lovers. Unless he's upset about him choosing you, perhaps over something else.
He probably also doesn't know the intimate details of your relationship and why your husband loves you. Making it easy for him to judge you, and not approve.

I was just referencing to how people often say the whole "grow up and get a job"
One of the first things my Mom said when I asked about getting a piercing was that since I'm about to look for a part time job, I should be mindful of what I get because often people reference piercings with someone being trouble. (Especially here, it's very rare that someone has something that isn't an ear pierced)
But if it's common that definitely over rules that~
