They have a tendency to interact with the user. You won't really need to sense anything to be able to read them; they are, after all, just cards. To read the energy off of them, it really helps if your intuitive to begin with. Really, reading the energies isn't so much about having a special perception as it is just being aware that there is energy. Don't look at the deck expecting to see it's energy initially; just look at it realizing that there is energy, whether you see it or not.

I believe the people I come from call it "faith".

Maybe it's a condition, ever think of that? No, no you didn't. You never thought, "oh maybe he's sensitive about his invisible eyes." Maybe it's a skin condition. "Maybe she was born with it..."
