Scott works his own metaphorical stuff in. I think he uses the Anroids more as his metaphorical device. They are different from the ones in the book. They really are two different entities, the book and the movie. There's very little dealing directly with electronic animals at all, save some passing mentions, also probably put in more for metaphorical impact.

Not sure what you mean by Ant analogy. Can think of a couple areas in the book for that but one doesn't really involve an ant.
