Jacob looked to his right as a flash of light appeared from a newly created hole in the Never Never, and next to him sat Meave of the Winter Fae.
The Never Never is a realm, parallel to the mortal realm, and the home to many things: the dead, the immortal, but mainly resident to the Fae, who have built entire realms out of their spiritual presence. Most mortals who have no connection to the magical world take the openings and closings of the Never Never as the eye playing tricks, lest the world call them crazy. The darkness of the Never Never gives evidence as to why it is normally better for the Never Never to stay tightly shut, only allowing a high amount of magical power to cross.
Meave, however, while not being the greatest of the Fae, Meave was definitely powerful enough to transcend this rule without too much strain.
"Hello, Jacob. You seem to be eating healthily tonight," she said, sarcastically. The Fae never bothered people of the mortal world without reason, mostly in conflict with Fae of the opposite nature, not that Jacob knew this.
He glanced up at her. "Hmn (Hi)," he tried to say through his food. He was already irritated with the woman, who somehow got his name without them knowing.
