Like a lot of things, I liked these films when I was younger. Now... not so much. I find the corporate fixation on producing sequels really... depressing, honestly. I don't think I see why this series needed another entry .

On the whole, though, it's all just so... tired. Every element in the films is part of a formula, the whole "appeal" just comes off to me as really superficial and I feel like it's all just about raking in money.

On the other hand, unlike say, The Matrix, these at least aren't trying to pass themselves off as some kind of critical philosophical art-form rather than self-indulgent reveling-in-genre that they are. So... at least they're honest, I suppose?

I don't know. I just wish there were more original, challenging, thought-provoking films coming out, visual stories that are approached as art, rather than a corporate strategy. But, it would be delusional to actually expect that from any studio with the budget to make a high-quality film. It's just... saddening to me.

Anyway, about Underworld, I personally put them right next to the Resident Evil films -- shameless action-fests that occupy you for a couple hours, but not something you're going to take anything meaningful from experiencing.
