Yeah, I know that feeling Juju. I don't want to refer to someone as 'they' constantly because I don't know how else to refer to them. I don't think many would be offended by what you've said. I don't see it as rude or anything, I see it as making a point that may help to open someones eyes on the site as to how uncomfortable something like that can be.
