Hey Biomecha ^^
What's up, how are you?

Espy 10-30-2022 02:11 PM

Ugh, just last night, I tried to find shit via Google Patents. That engine is terrible. Gave me hundreds of thousands of results for my search terms, none of which were particularly relevant, at least on the first five pages of each search.

Though I suppose that means I'm in the clear, in terms of infringing on copyright stuff.

Biomecha 10-30-2022 03:19 PM

Death: I've been keeping busy, got to finish my first pet care adventure and it went well. How about you?

Espy: Does the patent search make it as difficult to use boolean searches as the general search? I miss being able to use those as effectively.

Espy 10-30-2022 03:24 PM

I only search key phrases and didn't utilize any bools, so I wouldn't know -- though considering it's still Google, I'd assume so.

Stabbsworth 10-30-2022 04:30 PM

google's gone to shit in the past decade.

Biomecha 10-30-2022 05:28 PM

Espy: Ah, that's too bad it's making it so difficult either way.

Stabbsworth: It's like every attempt to make it easier to use, it is only making it harder.

I know people seem to like Bing now for some things. I need to start using DuckDuckGo more often to see how well it performs.

Stabbsworth 10-30-2022 05:47 PM

i use ecosia and duckduckgo, but duckduckgo is also slowly going to shit.

google is basically advertisement central. if you have a question, better off asking reddit.

Burnt Rice 10-30-2022 05:59 PM

Hah! Yeah.
My google process tends to go:
Google question I have.
Reword the question I have and google again.
Stop and think for a moment...
Google question I have and add in "Reddit" for success.

Espy 10-30-2022 07:39 PM

For me, I'll generally add "quora". But I'm starting to come around to Reddit.

Biomecha 10-30-2022 07:51 PM

I haven't heard about Ecosia. I like the eco-friendly aspect.

Reddit can be useful, but lately my searches have been leading to posts asking what I'm looking for with no comments, or no helpful comments.

Espy 10-30-2022 09:31 PM

Also, it's so much easier to fall straight down a rabbit hole...

Biomecha 10-30-2022 10:06 PM

True, but I do that anyway with reddit in general. Although, I wish they'd let you search on a browser without the app, without the pop-up asking if you want to use the app or stay in the browser. I use a 3rd party app just for general browsing, and find it easier to search with browsers.

This is my first event here. Weird right?

Espy 10-31-2022 01:08 AM

-settles into the Nox vibe- It's been a while.

Death by Mirrors 10-31-2022 04:25 AM

Yeah, that's why we settled on webs as currency. So we can lure you all into cleaning our dusty old rooms. Er, I mean, so you can have an ecological method of payment supporting local multilegged weavers. *hands out brooms*
