Quiet Man Cometh 11-26-2012 03:16 AM

I've gotten absolutely nowhere when it comes to my November plans. That is hardly surprising. My work ethic with writing is not good.

Lestrade 11-26-2012 10:40 PM

I wrote 3k today to hit 30k. I think I can actually do this!

Quiet Man Cometh 11-27-2012 03:21 AM

Yay!

So your characters are no longer wayward in their purpose?

Kaunisenkeli 11-27-2012 09:09 PM

You're already doing better than I've ever managed, Lestrade. Good luck!

Lestrade 11-27-2012 10:19 PM

They're slightly less wayward. And I had the big reveal about the MC come about when I did not expect it, so... that was fun.

Lestrade 12-07-2012 01:59 AM

In case anyone's curious, I did make it and "won" NaNo, but oh is the final product bad! Way worse than my 2010 novel, which at least had an ending, and not me summarizing a lot, skipping to the end, and then skipping the climax in favor of writing an epilogue...

Quiet Man Cometh 12-07-2012 03:55 AM

I was curious, but I haven't been down in this end of the forums much. The point of nano is to write something isn't it? Fixing it is what second drafts are for, and third drafts, and fourth drafts...

Kaunisenkeli 12-07-2012 09:28 AM

Quiet is absolutely right, Lestrade. NaNo is all about getting it on paper, quality can (and more often than not has to) come later. Congratulations on getting through it! :D

Lestrade 12-07-2012 03:39 PM

Oh, I know that XD And there are some decent parts in the beginning. But writing this really made me realize more than anything that this story still needs a TON of work.

Luckily I realized waaaaaay late that I had a group I could very easily have turned into main antagonists, but didn't. So if I do rewrite it, they'll have a MUCH bigger role.

Xurxo 12-09-2012 11:39 AM

I participated in NaNo and didn't end up getting past about 4-5k words. November is such a busy month, I'm going to have to try to get that word count another month.

I get way too easily distracted and get caught up in quality when I should just worry about quantity.

Arikana 12-13-2012 05:54 PM

Yeah, I wanted to do it to. But I was quite busy this past November. :( Maybe next year....

trystan830 10-30-2014 02:20 PM

*pokes thread to wake it up*

who's doing NaNo this year? this is my 4th year, and i've won/finished my story for the last three years, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

here's my profile at nanowrimo.org ~ trystan

Den 10-31-2014 06:16 PM

I actually won't be writing for NaNo this year. I'm working on turning the first chapter of my 2011 winner into a comic so I can start selling it at conventions. Which is funny, to me, at least, because Banshee Illuminated was originally intended to be a comic, not a novella.

Lawtan 10-31-2014 06:22 PM

I would, but most things I do are inconsistent. So, I'll write as I can.

Den 10-31-2014 06:26 PM

Last year, I only ended up writing about 10K. It was a stressful month for me though, so I wasn't able to devote a lot of time to writing. this year, I'm focusing more on getting the comic done... With an absolute deadline of January 1 for the inks, January 30th for toning, and February 11th for finishing the cover. Then it's going to be a deadline of March 7th for getting stuff printed so it's ready for Planet Comicon.

trystan830 10-31-2014 07:20 PM

well that sounds really cool, Den! =)

SolarCat 11-03-2014 02:15 PM

Good luck, AutobotDen! That does sound exciting.

I love NaNoWriMo, but I've only participated once, way back in college.
Someday I will write again... Currently, though, my efforts are more towards school. (I did write a 2200 page case study paper yesterday, though, does that count any? Ha!)

trystan830 11-03-2014 02:22 PM

so i've started. and getting distracted as usual - but they're by my every-day websites, so they're only distractions when i'm working on NaNo. and this cool Tris event doesn't help!

also, my word count widget is in my signature!

Quiet Man Cometh 12-02-2014 01:29 AM

I did Nano this year, but crashed and burned after the first week, with a grand total of 3650 words. It's a start of something though. My first year I reached 24 000 with miscellaneous writing. Was doing a similar thing this year.

trystan830 12-02-2014 10:49 AM

well, as someone on another forum said, that's more than *most* people write! so congrats on your 3,650 words!! =)

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 04:08 PM

I've heard about it and thought about joining it, but I could never find enough information on it to do so.

trystan830 12-29-2014 06:15 PM

the easiest way to join is to just write a novel in november! if you want to track your progress and see a status bar with "winner" on it at the end of 50,000 words, you can sign up at nanowrimo.org, and submit your word count periodically to see your progress! =)

maybe i'll see you in november, Aikko!

(also, random, what dress or skirt/shirt are you wearing, and is it a shop item?)

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 06:31 PM

I found it in the shop, I believe in the Lavish Luxuries, and it is called Black Slip Dress. :) Hope it helps!

trystan830 12-29-2014 06:37 PM

thank you!

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 07:21 PM

You're very welcome! :)

trystan830 12-29-2014 07:25 PM

i tried it on, and oddly enough, it's not "me"...

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 07:32 PM

Haha, I can understand that. Also, how do you get event currency? I see things in the shop but I'm not sure on how to get that pink looking thing.

trystan830 12-29-2014 07:36 PM

i replied on your profile, as not to get too crazy off the NaNo topic! =)

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 07:55 PM

So for NanoWriMo, are there any requirements? Rules? Etc.?

trystan830 12-29-2014 07:58 PM

really, just that you write 50,000 words of a novel in november. =)

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 08:08 PM

Looks like I have to wait until next year then, huh? X'D Oh gosh. Well it gives me lots of time to think on what I want to write I guess.

trystan830 12-29-2014 08:11 PM

well, you can write the novel anytime, really. but to keep track of it on the NaNo site, it does have to be written in november.

also the NaNo site has "winner perks" for those of us who "win" - that is, write 50,000 words or more.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 08:12 PM

Like what kind of perks? :)

trystan830 12-29-2014 08:21 PM

the first year i did it (2011) one of the perks was if you signed up with one of their associate websites (i think that's the right word?) you could get 5 copies of your book printed as a trade paperback for free - all you had to do was pay the shipping. =)

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 08:26 PM

That's awesome! How much was their shipping?

trystan830 12-29-2014 08:28 PM

it is! it was like $5 or something.... i think.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 08:30 PM

That's a pretty decent price. *u* Also, another question, can you go over the word limit?

trystan830 12-29-2014 08:35 PM

agreed.

oh yes, all you need is 50,000 words at the very minimum. last month's novel was 53,585 words. 2013, i wrote 53,500 words. 2012 i only wrote 51,151 words. but my best one so far was my first, in 2011... it was 65,020 words!

you don't have to finish your story, just write 50,000 words. however, i've always finished my stories.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 08:42 PM

I like to finish things. XD If I leave them hanging it doesn't just bug the readers, but me as well.

trystan830 12-29-2014 08:43 PM

oh yes, i know what you mean!
