Playing old games...

I have a wii and all I like to really play on it is the Wii Resort and Mario Party 8, but our nun chucks connectors are broken so I can only play the remote only minigames? <x)
Also, I sometimes go way way back to the Game Boy Color to play Pokémon Red, and to the Nintendo 64 to play Diddy Kong racing. (which coincidentally was my very first video game.)

Anyone ever get an itch to actually go back to play games from like, 2009 or something earlier sometimes? Even flippin' Pokemon X and Y feels old now. >.<
And I just realized all of those were Nintendo...>->

Kaderin Triste 12-16-2018 07:09 PM

Lol. So...I haven't really had the money to buy video game systems at all in my life. So when I do play games, they're always old. XD
My fave go-to ones are Rune Factory 3 (Nintendo DS) or Shrek 2 and Fable (xBox)
And somewhere in my mess, I do have a gameboy color and Pokemon Red and Blue that I will play sometimes.

Espy 12-16-2018 07:23 PM

...-glances sideways at Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate-

Merskelly Metalien 12-17-2018 12:18 AM

Gosh. The original Xbox feels like it happened 60 years ago, but I never owned one. :/ I did remember playing on my cousin's though, and we had wrestling games, and a Jedi Academy game on it or something. Ohhhh, I totally forgot about PC games too! x]
PC games in the 90s were like all I ever had as a child. x') I remember my dad playing the PC version of The Phantom Menace when it came out 15 million years ago...*sigh* weird times...

Coda 12-17-2018 01:25 AM

The old game I always tend to go back to is Mega Man 2. Truthfully I like 5 better (charged buster, slide, jet armor) but I never owned 5 so 2 is the one I know best -- and 2 has the best music.

Tetris almost counts, except I play newer versions because they're just simply better than the old ones.

Kaderin Triste 12-17-2018 01:26 AM

I only got my Xbox like...5-ish years ago. Because it was probably around $150 cheaper than the latest Xbox system at the time. Neither my parents nor I could afford video game systems when it was new, no matter how badly I wanted one. And now, I still can't afford them. And playing games by myself gets kind of...boring I guess? Like, they're alright, but being able to play and joke around with friends would make them better.

Ah PC games. My mom kind of ruled the PC, so we seldom got to use it unless it was legitimately for school. So we didn't have many games. Just Oregon Trail 3, Jewel Quest, and the demo games that we got from cereal boxes (Clue, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, those type) back in the day. And some obscure games on floppy disk.

Glitch 12-17-2018 01:33 AM

Legend of Mana, Breath of Fire games, Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth, and the King's Quest games are my continual life replays.

Death by Mirrors 12-17-2018 04:49 AM

For some reason or other, more than half of everything I play is old.

Online I play Guild Wars - mind you, the original from 2005. I did actually try Guild Wars 2, but even though I liked being able to play as Charr or Norn, the whole game itself never could convince me. Feels like one of these casual five minutes lunchbreak games. Its precedessor is a lot more interesting.

Offline, a huge fan of the Sims. But again, Sims 4 never truly caught my interest. After all the ingame customization options of Sims 3, or the detailed animations of Sims 2 (actually board a car instead of beaming inside, anyone?) the most recent game seems to lack in every area.

As far as consoles go, I own a Wii and PS3. Since they both work perfectly fine, I don't really get an urge to upgrade to PS4 or WiiU.

And for anyone who believes "old" starts twenty years ago, I also enjoy to spend my time in multi user dungeons. Who said a game needs graphics to get someone hooked? ^^

Coda 12-17-2018 11:38 AM

Oooooh, a fellow MUDder! Which one(s) did you play? I got my start on FieryMUD, but spent a lot more time overall in Dragon's Star, and only ever hit level cap on CyberASSAULT (and that only because level cap there is 30 instead of 100).

I was briefly a builder for Seath's ROM (the fact that its name was "Seath's ROM" should indicate that it never took off) and I applied to be a builder on Dragon's Star but didn't make the cut because a more experienced candidate got the role. I also built my own MUD engine, although it ended up getting retrofitted into a tabletop RPG service that my friends used for YEARS.

Espy 12-17-2018 03:29 PM

!!! Are we doing MUD recommendations now? Aaaaah where's Lawtan when you need them.

Death by Mirrors 12-17-2018 04:35 PM

Yes we're definitely doing MUD recommendations!

(Although I fear I don't know much to recommend... my favorite one is UNItopia, but you'd have to understand German for that)

Merskelly Metalien 12-17-2018 11:20 PM

.U.; Ohhhman..MUDs are way beyond my time haha! *has nothing to contribute*

Coda 12-18-2018 09:53 PM

I have, on more than one occasion, been tempted to make a Trisphee MUD.

The main reason I haven't is because it would be basically completely disjoint from the rest of the site.

I mean, they're also more or less from before I was on the internet, but they haven't quite lost their charm.

Death by Mirrors 12-20-2018 05:47 AM

Personally I think a Trisphee MUD would be great fun, but from my experience with dragging friends into my favorite few I suppose the number of actual players is going to be less than five.

Stabbsworth 12-20-2018 01:13 PM

what's MUD stand for again? i'm probably being a bit of an idiot here.

Espy 12-20-2018 01:35 PM

Multi-User Dungeon.

Linkle 12-20-2018 01:44 PM

I remember back in the day when Runescape was new. I miss Runescape....I mean I COULD go play it now but...

Merskelly Metalien 12-20-2018 07:57 PM

Anyone have any favorite retro games? :)

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2018 08:22 PM

Retro like the original Mario Bros series and PacMan and all that?
Because I LOVE the Mario Bros. games and PacMan. I just seldom am able to play them.

Merskelly Metalien 12-22-2018 02:48 AM

Yeah. :) Like those. And also Galaga, because that was around in the 80s too. I like the Namco classics.

Kaderin Triste 12-22-2018 03:52 AM

Oh man...this is bringing back memories of the old game system we owned when I was a kd. I don't know for sure, but based on google image searching, it may have been an Atari 2600 (could have been a knock-off though, idk). Only we didn't have the joystick controllers, just the knob ones. The ones you just turned the knob to move our character left and right.
And we didn't have any big-name games. The oly one that really stands out is a game where you had a clown (or two maybe?) on a sort of see-saw and they would alternate bouncing into the air to pop balloons that moved across the top of the screen (3 different colors moving at different speeds). And each level, everything would get just a lttle faster.

Oh, kinda like space invaders but on a seesaw? :) That sounds neat! My mom had an Atari with the joystick, and came with different games, but she wasn't really a gamer.

Did it look like this btw? o.o

Derpy McBlueEyes 12-22-2018 04:18 AM

Kinda? It might have been that, but I think it was a little different in color/style. Essentially that was the game though.
I don't really remember much about it tbh. I haven't seen or played it in over 20 years probably.

Merskelly Metalien 12-22-2018 04:32 AM

Sweet. >u< Though it'd be nice to revist them I imagine. <:)
I love the old 8 bit music and sound effects from the old arcade games too. X') they're so adorable and nostalgic! Especially the Pac-Man and Ms. Pac Man ones.

KittyBeary 12-30-2018 04:49 AM

I re-played the Ace Attorney games recently. XD

Merskelly Metalien 01-02-2019 08:11 PM

I've never played those Ace Attorney games actually, but I'll bet I'd like it. x]
Been playing a lot of Pokémon Soul Silver and Platinum lately. :/ I guess I kinda missed gen 2 and 4 a little bit. Though I feel myself missing X and Y. <x{ <3

Kaderin Triste 01-02-2019 08:15 PM

Omg, just rediscovered my old GBA emulator on one of my hard drives (long story, but the best of my shitty laptops finally died, so back to my previous one) and I have been playing the shit out of Fire Emblem and Summon Night.
Woo!

Stabbsworth 01-09-2019 11:25 AM

i'd like to play the ace attorney games. if i remember correctly, there's a site that used flash to emulate the sonic games and such.

Merskelly Metalien 01-11-2019 07:19 PM

I miss playing online flash games, so every so often I'll pay a visit to Andkon.com :] And play some old games from my elementary school years.

The only emulator I had was on my old phone and I played Pokémon Crystal on it. ^-^; But I enabled cheats just to get a whole bunch of shiny pokemon...all the free items and level 100 pokemon kinda took the joy out of playing tho. :/

My brother used that sonic emulator site I think, years ago and he'd play old sega games like Sonic 2 and Echo the Dolphin.

Stabbsworth 01-15-2019 01:45 PM

i really miss bunni: how we first met. i can't play it anymore bc the servers are down.

Espy 01-16-2019 02:49 AM

Man, I need to find a good version of Loderunner.

Merskelly Metalien 01-16-2019 07:21 AM

<x] My brother is currently just hell-bent on getting a bunch of nostalgic ps2 games we used to own on ISO files and saving them on extra SD cards.
So far he found Neopets The Darkest Faerie, Ace Combat 4, Soul Caliber 2, Spyro: A Hero's Tail, and Kingdom Hearts.
We're hoping to get Star Wars Battlefront II next. X'D So many great memories with that game, OMG!

Gogandantes 08-11-2019 09:43 PM

ive been watching old walkthroughs of Metroid on snes. I remember about the first hour of the game. some of the bosses I forgot and stuff to collect I forgot where to find it. ive been recently wanting to get a set up going so I can play the old retro stuff. I used to kick so much butt on those old games. been considering doing a vintage games thing on youtube channel etc. sounds cool anyways. :D

Coda 08-12-2019 08:39 AM

My son is a Metroid fanatic. He's only 12, but I can't tell you how much I appreciate that he developed a love for Super Metroid all by himself.

Quiet Man Cometh 09-04-2019 12:56 AM

Oh man. I'm sitting here deciding if I want to dig out my PS2 so that I can play Devil May Cry again, or buy a copy from Steam or something. Cons of that though, would be having to beat Phantom again (I HATE that guy) and the fact that I have no money for frivolous things because car.

I probably wouldn't even be thinking about this except stupid DMC 5, which I also super want, even though I've yet to play 3 or 4. Or even finish 1, actually. Done't care, game is fun!

KittyBeary 09-04-2019 05:38 AM

If you wanna talk old games, DOS games are great. <3

Coda 09-04-2019 11:06 AM

I've been playing a lot of old games recently. I even made a thread reviewing some of them.

Thinking about DOS games makes me think of a few titles I should post reviews for.

Francisco 09-04-2019 11:29 AM

I've been playing Daggerfall for the first time, it's refreshing to have an opening dungeon that's actually somewhat of a challenge.

Espy 09-04-2019 07:35 PM

Oh I should play DF at some point. P sure I got it free w Morrowind.
