what makes u happy no matter what?

lately i've been feeling pretty down in the dumps, so i've been trying to think of things to do to make myself feel a bit better.

personally i really like bubble tea & nice, sugary iced coffees. i can't be sad if i'm drinking either of those things, and if i somehow am, they really help anyways. i don't really have the money to buy bubble tea or coffee more than a few times a month, but i've been making iced coffee at home and it's still really nice. one day i'd like to learn how to make some fancy coffee drinks.

playing guitar makes me happy, too, but sometimes it can be frustrating, haha.

what brings a lil light into yr life? what makes you happy no matter how sad you are? have you found anything that makes you happy without fail?

Skelly Galla Avi makes me happy

I can't make myself happy directly if I'm feeling down. It just doesn't work -- I end up just feeling lame that I'm artificially trying to cheer myself up as if I were disregarding the problems in my life.

What instead works for me is to redirect through some other form of intensity. Loud energetic (some might call it "angry") music sometimes works, sometimes playing a difficult video game works, sometimes just going and getting some physical activity works. Rhythm games do a good job of combining those categories; DanceDanceRevolution hits all three. Once I'm well and truly psyched up by whatever it is I'm doing, then I'm not sad anymore and THEN I can calm down and get happy.

If my mood is such that I can't bring that kind of intensity to bear, then I go the polar opposite direction and redirect into something peaceful and calming. "The Art of Zen" by Zircon is one of my favorite songs for that, but I have a whole Spotify playlist of stuff that's soothing enough to be listenable when I'm upset but energetic enough to lift my mood over time.

Meditation helps too, and this kind of music is GREAT for the kind of meditation that can pull you out of a negative mood: close your eyes, let the music fill your body, focus your awareness on the texture of the music and the feeling of your body reacting to it. If negative thoughts come to mind, acknowledge the thought and gently place it aside instead of getting upset that you can't get your mind off of it.

Whenever I'm down or not feeling great, I just watch a Ghibli film(or part of one if I don't have time to watch a full movie), and they put me in a better mood. And when I can't watch one or don't have the time to, I just look at images from the films and just looking at the art helps. :)

Not to be an edgelord, but it's been so long since I could feel happiness, at some point I even lost the sense of desiring it without even realizing it had slipped away. I feel like an emotional zombie most of the time these days. Fear seems to be the only sensation that ever really spikes high enough for me to notice.

It's one of those situations where it doesn't even feel actively bad or wrong because I'm so acclimated to it, to the point where even seeing examples like this thread of other, healthier people trying to tap into that human need for joy in their life really throws me off and makes me realize how realize how deep the pit I've fallen into is.

If only I were capable of caring about that....

Perhaps the same as Coda in the not really happy but no longer depressed frame of mind, assuming it's just that I'm down. Power metal is usually what I pick up.

I suppose Tim Bits are good for catching my attention no matter what mood I'm in. Though generally someone needs to stick them down in front of me. I won't go get them myself.

My cat always makes me happy, too, when he's not covered in dirt. =w=

Videogames, usually.
If not, then doodling does.

A good journey can always make me happy. New places, new people and new adventures, of course. I was really depressed a couple of years ago. My boyfriend left me and I was just totally damaged. Then my parents suggested me to go to Europe just to clean my mind and to relax. And they were right! After ordering the tickets and changing the atmosphere around I really started feeling better.
