Quiet Man Cometh 10-30-2016 11:27 PM

Kick-Off was entertaining! Hoping to make it to a couple more write-ins in November but we'll see. I've committed to editing my first nano piece so I doubt I'll get anywhere near the word count, but a chapter a day should have my project finished by the end of November, and maybe ready to print.

trystan830 10-30-2016 11:32 PM

that sounds pretty cool. Quiet Man!

...is it nov 1st yet?

Lawtan 11-01-2016 09:40 AM

Indeed it is. I'll have a section written up later...

trystan830 11-01-2016 10:02 AM

yaaay! ::does happy NaNo dance::

if anyone is interested in a read-along as i write it PM me and i can send a link to my google doc! =)

Coda 11-02-2016 03:10 PM

I'm ridiculously tired because my sleep got interrupted last night... I'm operating on MAYBE five hours. It's really screwing with my plans to do a ton of writing today.

If I can get some momentum going by the end of the day, I'm going to be posting my chapters up in the writing forum here.

trystan830 11-02-2016 04:13 PM

you can do it Coda! rah rah rah! =D

Coda 11-03-2016 11:48 AM

Blah... Nope. Not sure about this at all. I've got maybe 600 words. I took four days off of work to try to recover from some major crunch time in October, and here I am day three of that vacation and I haven't actually gotten any time off because I've ended up having to work on the house. I'm EXHAUSTED.

trystan830 11-03-2016 12:17 PM

yikes!

on the other hand, there's still 27 days in november!! =)

Coda 11-03-2016 12:27 PM

Yeah, but I was hoping to get half of the writing done this week because I've got to go back to work on Monday... but my vacation is half over and instead of being 10k words in I'm less than 1k.

trystan830 11-03-2016 12:30 PM

i hate when vacation time just runs away from you....

Potironette 11-03-2016 10:35 PM

I got sucked into NaNo somewhere along the way. Never written before though, so it's more like an introduce-myself-to-writing kind of month XD. I haven't met the word count at all and its piling up, mostly from trying to figure out how to write for the first time, and partly from school.

trystan830 11-03-2016 10:43 PM

well that sounds like fun!

go, Potironette! rah rah rah! =)

Lawtan 11-04-2016 03:39 AM

I'll have a post up on Sunday, I hope...
(I am sort of swamped at the moment)

Coda 11-04-2016 03:43 AM

I think I'm just going to abandon this year. I haven't gotten a single actual WORD written yet. (I have a prologue but it doesn't count because I didn't write it DURING November.) I've put together some planning notes, but it's now three full days past and those were supposed to be my VACATION days that ended up not being much of a vacation at all. I was counting on being able to establish momentum this week, and the opposite happened instead.

At this point it'll be better for my mental health to shrug my shoulders and move on instead of trying to force myself into another obligation.

trystan830 11-04-2016 10:46 AM

yaay, awesome, Law!

aw, it's okay Coda. life happens. ugh. *hugs*

SparX 11-05-2016 10:20 AM

I wanted to dedicate this weekend to writing but half of it will be spent working D:

Potironette 11-05-2016 12:17 PM

NaNo and forums like Trisphee have literally become my only sources of procrastination from schoolwork, so even though I scrapped my NaNo thing, it'll partly be a measure of how much free time I have x'D

trystan830 11-05-2016 03:43 PM

i hear you there SparX. i'm about to start writing now.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-05-2016 03:45 PM

My current grand total is 1804 new words, and 5 chapters edited. So, technically, I'm ahead of the game despite not writing at all yesterday save for those errand 4 words (chapter title changes) at 3 this morning which still counts as today.

trystan830 11-05-2016 03:47 PM

LOL, Potironette!

cool, Quiet Man! =)

Potironette 11-05-2016 03:56 PM

I started doing a character chart for the first time. Somehow, I got distracted with doing half-baked research on firewood because the main character's supposed to be a logger, woops.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-05-2016 04:07 PM

One hundred or so words just now. Taking the course in MS Office had really helped out for this. The magic of an automatically generated table of contents is highly useful in a project like this. Document is so far small enough that scrolling is manageable still, but it will get bigger.

trystan830 11-05-2016 04:14 PM

i should take a picture of my 'notes' i made for this NaNo. it's laughable. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 11-07-2016 11:21 PM

Mangled my word count update. Thankfully I wrote it down here two posts ago so I could fix it up.

SparX 11-07-2016 11:24 PM

Mmmmm.
Making chapters.
I've just been writing without thinking about that D:

I would love it if people would listen to me when I say I need to be left alone T.T

Quiet Man Cometh 11-07-2016 11:27 PM

My manuscript is already organized into chapters so it's easy to keep going with it. I'm editing chapter by chapter in lumps. Pretty easy to follow. Not sure how well my commentary will fit in but we'll see. I've decided to pass the manuscript to my aunt to look over when I'm done for her input before I print anything. I think she would like to see it, and she's also not the type to pull her punches if she has an opinion on something. Since I refer to family members and friends who would be identifiable to other family reading the thing, I want to be sure I'm not doing anything that's going to rock the boat too much.

trystan830 11-07-2016 11:32 PM

SparX - headphones are good for that sort of thing.

SparX 11-07-2016 11:46 PM

I've had re-occurring ear infection this year so I stopped using the headphones I have until I can get a good over the ear pair D:

trystan830 11-08-2016 12:09 AM

oh that's no fun at all. *hugs*

Quiet Man Cometh 11-08-2016 01:25 AM

Good headphones are always worth the money. I had a pair of Razer Krakens that my fiend gave me but while I loved them they were too heavy and I would head big headaches if my posture was bad. I have an LG set now, and passed the old pair forward to my brother who needed a pair.

If I'm not in a socializing mood, I'll leave them on without any sound going on, or have them on if I just feel like dampening the room noise around me,

ZenKitty 12-17-2016 11:17 AM

Congratulations to Trys for winning NaNo.

How did the rest of you do? I don't see any more posts after the 8th.

trystan830 12-17-2016 10:41 PM

hey Zen! thanks! =)

Quiet Man Cometh 12-18-2016 05:25 AM

Haven't hit the 30k mark yet. School assignments had priority but I beat last year's 5k, and got almost all of the manuscript edited. Just left with a section on travel that I'm not sure if I want to include, really, and then finishing off some of the newer material that I incorporated over the month.

ZenKitty 12-19-2016 09:58 AM

Congratulations Quiet Man Cometh! It's always such a great feeling to do better than the previous year.

Editing is a long and slow process. I find that I keep growing as a writer and by the time I've edited my work, I want to re-edit it because I've learned more about the craft. I haven't learned the "good enough" stance yet. :P

Quiet Man Cometh 12-20-2016 05:24 AM

Well I wrote this back in 2013, so there's been time for me to forget what I wrote and approach it with new eyes. I've never proofread it either so that needed to be done. I've decided that I'm going to pass this to my aunt to be my "editor" because I'm not sure if I'm going actually try and publish it, or just print a few copies. Since it's about family, I'd like to have someone give me a different perspective on what the 'fallout' might be, particularly with extended family that might be in there.

ZenKitty 12-20-2016 11:53 AM

That sounds like a smart idea. Fresh eyes are always helpful, especially when there is potential fallout.

trystan830 12-20-2016 12:45 PM

maybe for next year, i'll do what i'd orginally thought for 2014: i have an unfinished novel i started *ahem* a lonnnnnng time ago, and it's about 2/3 of the way done. even though what i've written so far doesn't count; and even though i may not have 50,000 words by the end of the month - i'll finally have finished my novel that's been in progress since 199... oops, i didn't say that! XD

Coda 11-01-2017 03:40 PM

It's that time again!

I've actually got an idea this year! Annoyingly, I had written up an outline and a sketch for the intro, but I lost it in a botched system transfer. >_< Oh well. It's a good enough idea that I remember what it all was. I'll be starting a thread dedicated to the story once I start writing it.

Anyone else participating this time around?

trystan830 11-01-2017 04:06 PM

me!!!!

yaay for an idea, Coda!!!

so i'm a Rebel this year.... i have a story i started, then got distracted, then got lazy... and NOW i'm finally going to finish it! the kicker is i've always figured i had about a third of the story left.... NOW i get into the file and read the dang thing - i have two half-chapters, a full chapter, and an epilogue left to write!!! woot!!

Coda 11-01-2017 04:31 PM

Heh, wow, you are a rebel, the rules specifically say you're not allowed to do that. XD

I wrote out the prologue for my story already, but I wasn't going to count it in my word count. Of course, now I can't use it at all, because it got lost in that system transfer.
