Winter Retreat

The train had been a whim, decided on by the others to try and calm their nerves after this hectic season. The change of scenery was nice, the jagged mountains with their caps of snow, descending into rolling green hills dotted with multicolored trees – a beautiful sight on what had been a barren world so long ago.

Traveling between the planets, trading the wares of one world to the markets on another, Kylesti had been many places, seen many sights in her long career. Quesaria’s great oceans full of strange and radiant creatures, Deivai’s scorched deserts hiding bountiful oases. Kalin was by far the most diverse place she'd settled, full of mingling life and cosmopolitan culture.

Attention all passengers, we will be disembarking at Biosphere Reserve #39 shortly. Please collect all bags and personal items now, thank you.

Ky smiled to herself as she gathered her bags. She’d probably be the last one off the train at this rate, but that was fine. You could always see more in the back.

“What a great idea... Let's go to the Biosphere! Let's have an amazing holiday vacation!” Lesallia dodged a wild flying snowball from Arryn, and hissed. “These are my designer boots, damn it! They're going to get ruined... and whose brilliant idea was this, anyway?” She realized no one was listening, and decided she didn't care. “I, for one, voted for the tropical resort, but we just HAD to bring squirrel-boy to see the snow....”

Another snowball splattered against her coat, soaking the delicate fabric. She brushed it off in growing irritation. “I can see why you didn't want to come, Fakir. Snow is terrible and this was a terrible idea.” A third missile narrowly missed her and burst against a nearby tree, showering her in snow. “You're ruining my new outfit!" she screamed at a grinning Sasan.

Sighting the cabin they'd rented – the only hope of civilization in this miserable Biosphere, Lesallia marched off, doing her best to ignore the laughs and snickering. She meant to warm up and settle in with a nice cup of cocoa. Taking one last look back at the others, she snow a snowbank explode as Kaimid hurled an iceball with all the force in his robotic arm. She heard someone shriek – probably Arryn – and made her way inside.

It took a little bit of tinkering with the stove, but the kettle was finally whistling by the time they all made their way in, noses red and fingers chilled, all begging for steaming mugs of her cocoa.

Lesallia nudged Katrine, and threw a glance in Arryn’s direction, just in time for Kat to catch Arryn sneak another glance at Sasan. Sharing coy smiles, they set off to a private corner to start scheming. If their two friends fancied each other, then they were definitely going to set something up for them.
