Fountain Pens

Well, my birthday is next week, and I already know what I want for my birthday, which is listed from another site because I have them in my cart.

Pen cleaning package
Platinum preppy fountain pen
Platinum carbon black ink cartridges.

I did a bit of research, the non extensive kind, and found that the fountain pen I have currently (it came as a set with other pens) and international in cartridges are supposedly compatible with it... the cleaning package that i thought of buying off the site has a solution of sorts that helps clean out the nib so it doesn't clog or mix with other inks if you have stubborn ink or if it dried in the nib after the pen has not been in use... Anyways, I love the way fountain pens write! I prefer black ink in my pens. I do believe that they even make chicken scratch writing look good, but that has to be tested out first since I never actually saw anyone with chicken scratch write The pen that I want was suggested by a couple of people because it is cheap. There are other fountain pens suggested/recommended as well, like the pilot varsity fountain pen and Lamy Safari fountain pens. I fell in love with my fountain pen I have, but did not know how to care for it. I tried cleaning it out the way it was instructed, but it still did not write.

I have seen a couple of videos on how to clean your fountain pen, so I think I wanna try them on my own fountain pen that doesn't write anymore... and to be honest, I wanna go to school so I can be a professor and teach classes, just so I can use a convertor and grade students' work with red ink... ah, fountain pens!

Do you enjoy fountain pens? If so, what kind do you like? What ink colour do you use, and do you have a collection? If you don't own a fountain pen, would you like to?

Recently, I thought about sending a couple of people a fountain pen, one as a graduation gift and the other just a "because I'm happy you're going back to school" gift. Of course, I'll have to remove the ink because I know he's not going to use it, but at the same time, I'd love it if he did. Still, he says his writing is... poor, and depending on the paper, it would bleed through and get on the other sheet of paper beneath his first sheet of paper. I have seen a video recommending types of school paper to use for fountain pens when taking notes and such. I do have a journal written in fountain pen for the most part.

A friend told me that they would buy an amazon gift card and send me the code to buy the stuff from amazon, which is great! After making the purchases, I should have enough money to purchase some songs. Maybe I could buy something from someone. :p-grin:

With your obsession over cursive handwriting, it comes as no surprise whatsoever that you like fountain pens. ;)

Boris 05-23-2017 06:12 PM

Daw, it makes me happy that you remembered I love cursive. I can't decide whether to get Lamy Safari or Platinum preppy, to be honest... I can only get one since I am only getting a $50 amazon gift card code, and getting both pens puts me above $50 since I'm getting other stuff as well, like ink and converter.

I thought about you while browsing another site. They had a workbook to learn/relearn or teach how to write cursive. I thought about buying it for you if my friend had paypal, but then I remembered that it would have been a waste of money because you don't want to learn cursive.

I picked up a basic fountain style pen a while back to try, since I write so much that I appreciate a good pen. It's a Pilot V-pen I believe, all of $3. I don't find I use it all that much though, as my cursive is quite tight most of the time and I find the ink stream too wide so it made it hard to read. I don't think I could tolerate a proper fountain pen with a separate ink jar. I'm more the type that would be the 7-year French pencil.

i'm a big fan of vulgarities being written in fancy inked cursive.

i have an ink and watercolor sign for my door that says "Cunt Zombie"

dat me. i am the cunt zombie.

Coda 05-23-2017 11:38 PM

I did not know Galla was numbered among the ranks of the once-departed.

Though I suppose it makes sense. She does often seem to be living-impaired. Maybe she worked herself to death but her obsession with getting stuff done wouldn't let her rest even then.

Gallagher 05-23-2017 11:43 PM

i mean

you're not wrong

i don't think zombies are very good with fancy fountain pens, though. as nice as they are, i think i would stick to collecting things made for me rather than the tools themselves.

Espy 05-24-2017 01:56 AM

Ugh, I absolutely love calligraphy fountain pens. Galla, I should write shit for you or something.

mdom 05-24-2017 06:49 AM

I think they're beautiful, but I don't trust myself to own and take care of one xDDD I'm a messy person. On the other hand, it would make my birthday cards much easier to make, ball-pointed pens really aren't made for that.

Boris 05-24-2017 01:02 PM

Quietman Cometh, that would prove to be a problem for me, for I like to write in cursive... but you knew that... still, if you're not interested in keeping it, why not try selling it? Oh, I forgot it was only $3.00.. still, maybe you can give it to someone else you know who likes those kinds of pens... not me... but someone you actually know.

Gallagher... when I get my fountain pen... I feel like writing vulgarities on a card as a test run... though I'm not good with vulgarities... and uh... you'll probably never see it. :p-sweat:
I think that's cute you have such a sign on your door, and maybe... I should have a sign on my door too. Hmm, I do have notecards, but I'm not sure if it's fountain pen friendly. I feel comfortable though because it's not like it's going to get all over my door... I wanna paint my door a different colour.

Also to Gallagher, if I find a zombie who is good with fountain pen, would you consider having tea and scones with a few strangers? Oh! A Fountain Pen party! Yeah! I wanna host a party!

Mdom, there are disposable fountain pens; although, it is possible to turn disposable fountain pens into eyedropper pens... so I've heard.

Coda! I wanna throw a fountain pen party!

Potironette 05-24-2017 03:47 PM

I used to use disposable fountain pens for some reason. They ran out and broke and spilled everywhere so I gave up.

Boris 05-24-2017 04:25 PM

Running out... as in, you'd just start using it and it ran out? If so, then I can understand why you gave up.

Potironette 05-24-2017 04:48 PM

Yep. Er, as in I started using it but after a day or two the ink would be gone (even if it weren't that fast it sure felt that way).

I started to write in cursive today because my sister got a bunch of super smooth pens which made normal writing difficult (note taking in class). I can't decide if it's more distracting or not xD

Boris 05-24-2017 07:52 PM

Maybe the ink dried out and what you used was all the non-dried ink left. Do you remember which disposable fountain pens you used? I mean, I know you said they broke and spilled, which is understandable is also why you stopped using them... anyways, yeah, do you remember which fountain pens you used?

Ohh, maybe. That'd be a shame though. I'm pretty sure I used the ones pictured above.

Boris 05-24-2017 09:07 PM

It's something I've never done, but [s]those[/s] disposable fountain pens could be turned into eyedropper pens and reused that way... I feel like getting a pen that can be turned into an eyedropper pen... just because, but I'm getting a lamy safari... I plan to anyways, and I'm not sure they can be turned into one.
I hope that I'm wrong about the ink having dried up, but it's a possibility, but I think the pilot varsity pens are supposed to last a little longer than two days. I don't know for sure.
