i read a YA novel called 'Radio Silence' by Alice Oseman after i saw one of my twitter friends recommend it. and it was excellent. it was about friendship and fandom and how it's okay to not know where your life is going or where you want your life to go, and TT parts of it were sad but at the end of it, it was so hopeful and strengthening. i loved it.

Aaaand it's been a bit. High risk person so no house leaving for me, unless it's health stuff.

Reading slowly but doing more puzzles. I'm listening to more horror short stories on youtube, and picked up Carry On again via audiobook. I have Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore on hold but it will take a while. Audio books seem to always be a few weeks wait. I've got time.

Still working through Fangirl and Vas.

nothing wrong with puzzles!

did i ever post here the huge-ass puzzle hubby got for me years ago? we call it The Beast (that's a link), so... yeah XD

very slow going. i just finished A Stranger in the Mirror by Sidney Sheldon.... i'll start the next one in the list, we'll see how it goes. the library is now taking returns and holds again (they started yesterday) and i think in about 2 weeks they'll start with curbside pickup of said holds. hopefully i don't get all 5 books i have on hold at once! XD

Quiet Man Cometh 06-10-2020 02:22 AM

No kidding, slow. I found I didn't like the Murakami audio book and wanted to read it so I've got that and The Shape of Water on hold at the used bookstore here. Still reading everything I was before, with Carry On on audio book (had to borrow it again. Still not a fan of the narrator), and another review book that I've hardly read yet because so far it's only on my computer. Overdrive won't sync it to my phone. Blah.

well that's rude of Overdrive...

i have a book waiting for me at the library. if all things stay the same, they're saying that holds should start being able to be picked up the week of June 18-25. the hold expires on July 6th! XD

Kaderin Triste 06-10-2020 12:10 PM

I mean...that's plenty of time to pick them up?
Unless you mean that the checkout expires then, not the hold. In which case...read fast?
XD

I keep just...forgetting to read. Though I have made a little progress the last couple weeks in one book.

trystan830 06-10-2020 12:13 PM

that's when the hold expires. that may also change, because the due date on the book that i just returned kept changing. XD

once they're open for curbside pickup, i'll make an appointment (over the phone?) as to when i'll be able to actually go pick it up.

Derpy McBlueEyes 06-10-2020 02:54 PM

Derpy wanders in.
"Read me a stowy!" He demands, sitting down in the middle of the floor, waiting to be read to.

trystan830 06-10-2020 02:58 PM

i'd have to find a little dragon friendly story, Derpy, i don't have one right now....

Kaderin Triste 06-10-2020 03:00 PM

Lol....time for me to dig out the Edge Chronicles? Or maybe contine the Redwall series?
XD

trystan830 06-10-2020 03:18 PM

flip a coin?

Quiet Man Cometh 06-11-2020 12:53 AM

My library has all late fees being forgiven until they are able to open properly, and holds are being processed over the phone right now. They might refresh the hold for you given the circumstances, or try placing it on hold again. Might work if no on else wants it.

trystan830 06-11-2020 10:26 AM

yeah, my library is waiving all fees too. and the official due date on my book is August 1! XD i returned it on monday, so sometime this evening i'm going to check and see if it's been cleared from my account. (if not, i'll check it again saturday.)

Quick (sorta) listen to Lovecraft's "The Horror at Red Hook" because I finally got an audio book of "The Ballad of Black Tom" which is a satire/rebuttal to the heavy racism in Lovecraft's stuff. "Red Hook" is pretty much immigrant slum becomes bed of cosmic primitive horror! Save us all!

daikokunyo 06-15-2020 06:09 AM

I've managed to read several books during my downtime. 'Flour Babies' by Anne Fine, which was perfectly delightful; 'Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead' by Barbara Comyns (I didn't understand this one being the favourite of her works for some readers; 'The Vet's Daughter' is still my favourite and I have a few books of hers left to read, if I can only get my hands on them). I also read 'Nemesis' by Agatha Christie and 'Behold, Here's Poison' by Georgette Heyer. Hooray for cosy mysteries.
