The Three-Way Caroling Contest! [Winners!]
I love the holidays! I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment, but - after Halloween - this time of year is my absolute favorite. You see people being kind, the haze of fear and despair over the world lift just the slightest bit, and smiles over everyone. Only thing that would make it a complete success in my neck of the woods would be snow. Which... unfortunately - because I live in GA - isn't going to happen.
The other thing you see and hear a lot of are carols! Time-honored traditional carols, brand-spanking-new carols - carols being sung or played by professionals, and people who just want to make the world a better place singing them on street-corners, or outside of buildings. Even carols being hummed while doing all of that dreaded SHOPPING for this time of the year. Carols have to be my absolute favorite part of this time of year. The feeling of joy and festivity they bring to the car, the home, the shopping center - you can't help but have your spirits lifted by their melodious tones. That's why I designed this contest! I'd like to bring some Carols to Trisphee! Now, there are three different ways you can enter, and I'll list them here - to be explained in a moment. You can Sing one, you can Write one, or you can draw Toho, Glitch, Coda, Galla, or Me enjoying one in some form or fashion. Let me explain those for you. SING ONE Prize: Groove Box + 1500 Snowflakes If you fancy yourself with a set of gorgeous pipes - or even if you don't - you can belt out a well, or little-known carol, and record yourself. Upload it here to enter this part of the contest. There is no ban on offensive carols ["Merry F#!@ing Christmas" for example, is perfectly fine] - so long as you LABEL what the song is, and MARK it with a red snowflake [❄] Secular carols are also acceptable! I want to hear your voice as clear as possible, so it's recommended that you record in a quiet environment, but if you can't, that's also understandable. ^^ WRITE ONE Prize: Caffeine + 1500 Snowflakes If you don't think you can sing, but you still want to enter - that's fine! Maybe you're a really good poet! This section of the contest is for writers that think they've got the chops up in their quills to pen an epic carol. Be sure to double-check your lyrics to make sure they don't exist anywhere else! Also, make sure that your song SOUNDS like a holiday carol. Plenty of mentions of snow, and cheer, and good-will and the like! If you'd like to write something AGAINST the holidays, that's fine too - but no course language in this section, please! DRAW ONE Prize: Ink Mage + 1500 Snowflakes You don't want to sing, and you don't write well, but you still want to enter? This is the section for you! If you think you've got the artistic prowess to capture one of US enjoying the holiday season with a carol or two, go ahead and show it! i don't know how to record and share things. and i'm absolutely petrified of my singing voice. or at least being heard. i acn actually sing quite well..

they really are. and with such little self confidence and so little support offline i've just kinda retreated into my shell again. I was getting called really nasty stuff for being a female gamer. People who were saying they were my friend were begging me for my address and than going around telling people I was a W$%*@ that was just trying to get money from people, that I was begging. when I was just stating the truth that I really would love donations because it would help me take care of my kids when money is so darn tight. i can't buy them christmas presents. I can barely afford diapers for them. They're both in speech therapy and things are really stressful.
And i'm told all these nasty things like I'm not trying everything I can to make things better. People are telling me i should go to a corner or get a job to fix the financial issues when that means as the economy is right now I would be in a worse off situation because we would lose foodstamps and wic which is the only reason we're able to eat right now. and than with no one home to take care of the kids my entire paycheck would go to paying for childcare, so having the job would be pointless because we wouldn't have enough money for bills when we have to start paying for food and childcare cause we lose everything because of so much income. and its not fair that people say we're abusing the system when the system is abusing us and i can't take it anymore! oops. . . that just kinda tumbled out sorry. where's the spoiler tags. |

Eep, I didn't see Shadami's post when I wrote my carol. I wasn't making fun of you. I'm from a rather redneck and short of things background, so to me, that's a slightly humorous but good story of a determined grandma (And also, I like it better when Grandma's running over the deer than when the deer is running over Grandma.

Hmm...if I can figure out a way to record it on my phone, there's a slim chance I might sing...because everyone here seems fairly friendly and not likely to mock me mercilessly...
Also...is it okay to have the original song in the background? I do better singing along rather than singing alone. |
If you have an iphone it has he mic option - I used to use that for singing XD It's nice because you can plug it into your computer and if it has itunes it'll drop into your itunes playlist making an easy to get mp3.
I'm not Ari, so I don't know, but I think having the song in the background should be fine |

There are a ton of sound recorder apps for Android. Some of them will let you upload straight to YouTube, but failing that anything with a "Share" function should be able to send it to the Google Drive app.

I will look into it tonight and see what my current recording options are. My phone doesn't have a lot of space for new apps, but I'll figure something out.

It's okay Tam, that was rather amusing seeing as my mother in law does have a buick, and she is called grandma most of the time cause of my girls.
My actualy Grandma just passed away on Nov 1st, she was my last, so now I only have my in laws. and venison, and elk are delicious, i'm sure reindeer would be to. |
