The Happy Hobby Happenings
PM me a picture or gallery of your finished projects you are most proud of and they will be added here!

Damies' Desk
So in 2016 I installed an L shaped wall desk and painted it white with plans to get formica to top it... that never happened. Fast forward to 2019 and I finally got around to painting it black and doing the fronts of the drawers is fluid acrylics!
Here is my Imgur post about it. ;D

Speaking of expensive hobbies, I just spent the weekend at a con with cosplays. That stuff gets pricey.

Moonshadow 12-18-2016 03:44 PM

I love making jewelry, but I use expensive semi-precious stone beads. I kinda tend to over-buy then it takes me years to make the earrings and pendants I want. I paid $14 for one 1 inch lapis lazuli bead but it was amazing, I made a pendant out of it.

Kaderin Triste 12-18-2016 04:27 PM

Oohhh...that sounds like it would be pretty, Moon!
I love gemstone jewlery as long as it's very simplistic. (I'm not a fan of large, bulky, elaborate jewelry but simple pendants are nice.)

littl3chocobo 12-18-2016 05:09 PM

shooo, i can spend as much as toho and not even get half the fun XD not only am i a diorama-maker but i go for realism and in a 1/16th scale which is super hard to buy for and expensive to make yourself XD

i can spend 30-110usd on a kit plus 10-30usd on glues paints and fabric plus anywhere from 5-50usd on things like fine grains(for gravel and soil), small precut crafting sticks/dowels, metal beadcaps(for fixtures vases and other fun accoutrements) and rando stuff that is only good for a single project

a single 4-day project can take up to two months just because it takes forever to raise the funds to buy the materials

Damies 12-18-2016 08:38 PM

I just spent 252 dollars on fabric for curtains....

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 01:41 AM

X''D i totally feel for you (though i just bought curtain fabric too and only spent 6usd X''D to be fair i only needed about 10cm of each for mine, hahahaha)

And how. it gets worse if you do armor.

Anyhoo, my hobbies, in addition to cosplay, are knitting, drawing, writing, reading, seamstressry, collecting Transformers, painting Dungeons & Dragons miniatures, customizing dolls, cooking, collecting recipes, and learning new fiber things.

I had to get 7 yards at $30 per yard for the inner stuff then 9 yards of the decorative outer parts at $10 per yard... Thankgodforcoupons

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 05:33 AM

golly, that is pretty pricy per-yardage, what sort of material was it?

SparX 12-19-2016 11:08 AM

Mmmm hobbies
I have more then enough of them
Crafty things: Ooak monster high dolls, Rave/Dance wear, sewing tiny stuffed animals, drawing and painting in multiple mediums, baking and cake decorating, basic wood working and house remodeling
Future wishes: I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT TO MAKE MY OWN BALL JOINTED DOLLS. Also, I would love to get into pottery and poly-clay things too.

Speaking of yardage, since I only need literally one CUP of a bra of fabric, I find it ridiculous they force me to buy an entire yard..... but I have tons of fabric for future projects.

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 03:24 PM

who makes you buy a full yard? also, oWo how small?

It's a multi-layer insulation material. I have one whole curtain done yaaaay. ; n;

The ladies at joanns do D:
The girl I usually do Dance bras for is a b cup, but I'm going to be working on a D and DD soon. I wanna get some mannequins to store them on while I work on them but have no room currently.....

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 08:19 PM

ooooooh, the good stuff XD

dude, i was there this week for my fabric XD

SparX 12-19-2016 08:22 PM

I haven't been since way earlier this year, but I found some fake studded leather when I was there and bought 2 yards of it just in case >.> It's REALLY cool. Looks like this

Damies 12-19-2016 09:18 PM

these curtains are defeating us.....

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 09:19 PM

i would not want a chair made of that stuff XD

Potironette 12-19-2016 09:30 PM

I don't have hobbies I stick to--I'm kind of a hobby-hopper. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, drawing, browsing/half-learning Codecademy and Khan Academy. I've done all of those and am bad at them like a Jack of all trades and master of none ^^;;

Buuut, I do waste a lot of money on cloth because when I see something I like I can't help but want to get it to make things with XD. I bought a curtain last month because of that x'D.

Damies 12-19-2016 10:00 PM

MY RECENT VICTORY INVOLVES SEWING A CURTAIN AND BREAKING A SEWING MACHINE NEEDLE IN THE PROCESS!! Here is a brief imgur album re: my curtains from hell.

Kaderin Triste 12-19-2016 10:03 PM

Yay! Curtain success!

Damies 12-19-2016 11:28 PM

Now to make more bath bombs...

littl3chocobo 12-19-2016 11:33 PM

good job XD did you have replacements?

Kaderin Triste 12-19-2016 11:39 PM

Is it just me or do you seem to always be making bath bombs...?

Moonshadow 12-19-2016 11:50 PM

Damies: I love the curtain you made. I hate those big windows, because the heat goes right out of the room unless you have thermals up. I have thermal drapes in every window.

SparX 12-20-2016 12:08 AM

Bath bombs sound so cool =O
My husband bought me one to try, I haven't used one before =3
I've only watched videos of them online >.>

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2016 12:12 AM

They do seem to have gotten really popular lately. Almost makes me sad that I don't like baths.

littl3chocobo 12-20-2016 02:05 PM

i would not use one XD bad enough soaking in you-flavored soup, adding color and/or glitter does not seem like the best time XD

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2016 03:19 PM

Yes! "You-flavored soup" is exactly how I feel about baths! Finally someone else understands! Lol
XD
Baths just kind of gross me out.

littl3chocobo 12-20-2016 03:23 PM

they require the ability to pretend we are not human beings with pores and do not sweat, shed or slough x_____x also anything that stays submerged in water(especially warmer water) does integrate albeit slowly with the water

Damies 12-20-2016 06:45 PM

@Kaderin: These bath bombs are gifts though!

@Moon: these are thermal curtains and I have no idea if we actually saved money by making them or not. xDD

@Chocobo: Baths are not my thing usually, mostly cuz my tub is tiny, buuuut when I do take them I shower then use the tub for the bath, so there is less me in the soup. xD

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2016 06:48 PM

Yay! What pretty scents are you making for them?

Damies 12-20-2016 06:51 PM

I'd have to consult my list of smells. xD

Edit: Plumeria, Relaxing(lavender and other herby florals), Summer Fling (kinda citrusy floral?), Pearberry, Apple Rose

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2016 06:55 PM

Wow..my phone is a bitch...

Anyway.. Have you not made them/picked scents yet?

Damies 12-20-2016 07:09 PM

Note my edit 8D
I have a list of who is getting what scents so I had to look at it to remind myself.

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2016 07:11 PM

Ohhh...gotcha.
Cool!

Damies 12-20-2016 10:24 PM

Okay. Gonna make dat bath bomb shit now! Yeeah! /avoids forever
