Lol. Last year I was just gonna go silly woth The Book of Derpy. Where Derpy was basically a baby god with amnesia so throughout the story, he would subconsciously make stuff happen, but it would occur in a way where it wasn't super obvious until the end when he remembers that he's a god, so throughout the story the characters basically just are putting up with baby dragon care while on adventures and trying to find Derpy's mom. XD
Didn't happen though.

Not sure what I'd write this year.

here's a glimpse into my weird mind for this year...

http://docs.google.com/document/d/1W...it?usp=sharing

the first two pages are my working summary; the rest is "source materials" and some input

Death by Mirrors 10-05-2018 07:16 PM

Are you aiming for a scary, dystopic mood or more like thrilling adventure with a happy ending?

Because if it's the first, make religion and government the same entity, but in a way the reader constantly is challenged in their assumptions (eg. a completely peaceful world can't see any actual progress, mankind needs a certain level of struggle to evolve their technologies and knowledge; so maybe the cult taking over means a change for the better, but then again there is something fishy about the way they handle some things... keep 'em in a constant grey area where it's ultimately impossible to choose sides)

If the latter, religion and government being seperate from each other makes one of them easier to overthrow if the other turns out to be an unexpected ally for the fight.

trystan830 10-05-2018 07:24 PM

well, i have no idea how i want it to end. i mean, "everyone lives happily ever after" is always a nice ending.

that said, i'm not all that sure that religion is now all that big a thing. the notes about that were based on just that first little blurb in the "fine print source notes." i'm sure the Warriors' Cult will have some sort of belief aspect to it, though.

Quiet Man Cometh 10-08-2018 05:51 AM

I've decided that I'm going to work on my manuscript that I've been ignoring for a good while. It's sitting on 1800 words, roughly, though the bulk of that is the table of contents and titles. I might well just plow through another wave of steam of consciousness writing and then pick it apart at the end.

Coda 10-08-2018 09:40 AM

I'm not going to compete but I'm going to use the time to get back into my story after I lost so much momentum on it from overtime at work.

trystan830 10-08-2018 11:28 AM

last year i only wrote 8,340 words. but i also finished a novel that had been unfinished since mumblemumblemumble.... =D

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 04:00 PM

NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow!

I'm so unprepared for my writing. :P

Death by Mirrors 10-31-2018 06:16 PM

Me too. I don't even have a title yet. Just the vague idea my plot will be the adventures and mayhem of some teenage monsters created with dice rolls and tables of the pen&paper rulebook "Monsterhearts". Because sleep deprived me thought it would be cool to have some random characters thrown into the ring.

(Don't get me wrong, I actually love the main cast I created through this method. Especially the strings system will certainly be helpful in the way it already connects the characters to several others before the game novel has even started. But outline and proper preparation? Nope. Nowhere close.)

Mekatra 10-31-2018 06:37 PM

I have decided not to do any prep this year. I'm just gonna wing it completely.

happy NaNo eve!

unprepared? did you mean me, every year??

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 08:12 PM

I had truly planned on getting a lot of plotting and planning done, but all my spare time went to MLing and organizing stuff. But I'm taking off tomorrow and Friday and will spend a great part of that time trying to sort out my novel. Fingers crossed I won't get side tracked with more MLing stuff. :P

trystan830 10-31-2018 08:46 PM

Death - i don't think i've ever had a title when i started any of my writings!

Mekatra - yaay! a fellow pantser!

also, i only have one character name - the main character. heh.

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 08:53 PM

Titles. Gack. Those are so hard!

I only have a mere premise and a little bit of information on my MC. Haven't even settled on her name for sure. XD

trystan830 10-31-2018 09:04 PM

i get titles one of a few ways:

*i just 'get' one
*i have an idea, but i play with the thesaurus to get just the right words
*i write a phrase that's just perfect for the title
*other people give me one
*other people give me an idea....and then i play with the thesaurus to get just the right words
*i get one many moons after i've long since finished the story (such as the one i wrote in 2016 XD)

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 09:13 PM

LOL - You have a similar process to me.

I love it when there's a phrase that is perfect for the title.

trystan830 10-31-2018 09:19 PM

yep yep!

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 09:35 PM

One year, the title came really easily for my novel. I was so excited by it that I purchased some artwork for the cover and wrote over 70K words that month on it. It just flowed. One day I really want to edit it enough to send off queries.

Mekatra 10-31-2018 09:35 PM

Well, I made my novel on the Nano page... We'll see how this goes.

trystan830 10-31-2018 09:43 PM

Zen - that's kinda how my first year, "Love on Rye" went. it's my longest i've written - 65,000+ words. my older daughter made cover art for it too.

Mekatra- are you Mekatra on the NaNo site too? i'm trystan (without the 830), and the link is in my sig. =)

ZenKitty 10-31-2018 09:58 PM

That's really cool, Trys.

trystan830 10-31-2018 10:47 PM

thanks, Zen!

Mekatra 10-31-2018 10:48 PM

Actually on Nano I'm SiggyAsgardust :)

trystan830 10-31-2018 11:00 PM

ah... of course you are XD

Mekatra 10-31-2018 11:04 PM

I rather like my name. Plus, it's my nod to David Bowie.

trystan830 10-31-2018 11:05 PM

it's a cool name! and i added you as a writing buddy =)

mdom 11-01-2018 12:57 AM

DbM, title your work 'mdom'

ZenKitty 11-01-2018 09:52 AM

That is a cool name Mekatra!

Death by Mirrors 11-01-2018 05:28 PM

Why would I title it mdom?

trystan830 11-01-2018 05:29 PM

ooh, Death, what item are those pages? that's awesome!

Death by Mirrors 11-01-2018 05:48 PM

It's one of the poses from Caffeine which I think was an old anka egg item. Let me just check the item guide.

Yeah. Lapis egg, from 2014.

Glitch 11-01-2018 05:57 PM

I did it. I made my novel. I'm gonna do it this year by golly. >:(

I'm glitchers

mdom 11-01-2018 06:53 PM

Because every time someone says 'I don't what to name my dog/car/anything' I suggest mdom
it's top of the mind branding

Death by Mirrors 11-01-2018 07:04 PM

Haha, give me a good combo of words and I might actually make the acronym 'mdom'. It's about monsters after all, so there's one of the Ms.

trystan830 11-01-2018 11:11 PM

it's a cool item, Death

yaay Glitch!! i'm trystan (no 830)

also i'm at 1985 words!

ZenKitty 11-01-2018 11:20 PM

Yay Glitch! Glad you're joining in the fun.
I'm Contemplative Cat.
If I count my brain dump trying to figure out a plot writing that I did at the write in tonight, I'm at 3104.

trystan830 11-01-2018 11:38 PM

2,405 words for me for tonight. =)

Coda 11-01-2018 11:42 PM

First day of NaNoWriMo and I got JACK SQUAT done because I was sick. >_<

trystan830 11-01-2018 11:47 PM

*sends hugs and chicken soup*

ZenKitty 11-01-2018 11:48 PM

Congrats Trys!
